Péronne to Laon

Péronne to Laon

Rather cold last night! It was 8c in Bertie this morning and 4c outside. It took some determination to emerge from my warm bed to get breakfast. Eileen suggested this was a porridge morning and she certainly had a point! Very little bother from the traffic until the morning so we slept quite well. We did a full service of Bertie and the service point accepted my Halifax card happily to pay the fee of €2.1 and it switched to

We are lazy! Another slow start. This time I blame the clocks changing. Actually that does not work as the clock change gave us an extra hour in bed. Really though it was because neither of us slept well as the rain in the night was quite noisy. Not that it was heavy  but because we had parked under tall trees and they dropped large heavy drops on the roof at irregular times and somehow that was more disturbing than

Time has changed it seems. Not just the change of time zone but also the change of location and a big change in our thinking. France is an hour ahead so that means darker nights but that is complicated by being almost 7 degrees south of home and 5 degrees east. Anyway sunrise this morning was 08:30 and sunset tonight is 18:30. The evenings seem quite dark now and will get even darker this weekend when the clocks go back.

0ver the sea to…..Dunkerque

We woke in Canterbury to find we had been joined by several other motorhomes! It was a fine morning with some colour in the sky from the dawn. Before setting off we went through everything we needed to change. We put our pounds away and got out our euros, got out the headlight deflectors which I will fit in Dover, and made sure the passports were to hand. We used the facilities to do a full Bertie service and then

A long wet drive

A long wet drive

We left Tickhill, after a very pleasant few days with my sister, at 10am and headed out on to A1. The photo above was taken yesterday when the sun was shining. It is not shining this morning but not actually raining. That did not start until midday some where around St. Neots and by the time we got to Lidl at Letchworth it was pouring down. This stop was planned as we wanted to stock up on a few last

MQS House and long day to Tickhill

MQS House and long day to Tickhill

Before it got too dark last night we went for a little walk around the town. I had glimpsed the old bridge from the main road and wanted to investigate so we wandered down there and it was gorgeous, really narrow (too narrow to take a modern vehicle) and we walked across and then got a good photo from the far side. On our way back around the old town we found the MQS House and found that it would

Craigmillar Castle and on to Jedburgh

Craigmillar Castle and on to Jedburgh

We had quite a lie in this morning and did not have breakfast until well after 9am. It was a lovely sunny morning and the loch and hills beyond looked beautiful. We rolled away from Kinross at 10:30 back on to the M90 heading south. First stop today was Craigmillar Castle in the southern outskirts of Edinburgh. We had tried to visit here last year but an active police incident involving an armed woman(!) had closed the site! This time

Perth and geese

Kirkgate Park, Kinross

After a busy day in Perth we had a complete change of scene this evening by driving the 18miles from Perth to Loch Leven. We had a good night last night at the Park & Ride. We chose a flattish place at the far end of the carpark guessing that most people would be coming and going at the other end. We were aware of some activity around us but nothing serious and it went quiet after about 10pm (well

On the road South

A late start but on our way at last We have planned this trip almost since we bought Bertie in 2015. Some how we never quite managed to get away. There was always a reason we could not devote as much time as we wanted to or there was something else that needed our time and attention. However at 3pm this afternoon we had said all our goodbyes, we had checked over the house several times, we had crammed supplies

Trains at Treignes

Trains at Treignes

It was a lovely sunny day as we left Strepy Thieu with a clear blue sky. Today we are mainly on minor roads through small towns and villages as we drive less than 60 miles south east to the Ardennes where we plan to spend several days exploring as we make our way east toward Luxembourg. Our destination today is the railway museum at Treignes (perfect location for a train museum!) which combines a free aire (official motorhome parking place)
