Castalla to Ricote

Castalla to Ricote

On the road again.  The weather has turned cooler with some cloud and quite a strong wind. Last night the temperature in Castalla went down to around 5c but we had been forwarned and I fitted Bertie’s windy warmer which is a padded screen that goes around the outside the windscreen and the front side windows. This does help quite a bit to keep the heat in and if we pull the front curtains too that provides another layer. Still

Castel del Guadalest

Castel del Guadalest

We woke to bright sunshine or at least the promise of bright sunshine once the sun had climbed high enough. The plan for today was to spend the morning enjoying the sights of Guadalest. The view from the car park is just as stunning as it was last night. We looked up to the castle rock and wondered if that was going to a challenging climb. In the event it was an easy wander through the little village to the

On the road again!

We have torn ourselves away from Daimus! We spent 13 nights on the Dunes Camper site for the princely sum of €125 although that does include 6 nights with electricity when it was wet and cloudy. We said our goodbyes to some friends on the website and we do hope we might see them again on another site one day. It has been really good to relax and chill out knowing that everything we need is within easy reach and

Palace of the Borjas

Palace of the Borjas

We are still here! In the end we decided to stay for a couple more days in order to have time to explore the town of Gandia and especially the Ducal Palace of the Borjas (Italian spelling is Borgias – same family). We had read about this and thought it looked interesting. Gandia is 4.5kms away and there is an easy cycle path through the orange groves and along an old railway track now converted to a cycle path. We

Still at Daimus

Still at Daimus

We have been in one place for 10 days. I think this is the longest we have ever stayed on Bertie in one place! In some ways it has been really relaxing not worrying about where to go next, where to get fuel, where to service Bertie etc etc. It has also been good to have time to get to know other motorhomers and have time to chat and visit other vans. However I am begining to hunger for new

Daimus and catch up

Daimus and catch up

I am going to write up several days in one blog post as I have got a bit behind. We had two days on a lovely free aire in Simat de le Valldigna which was great but had a dreadful mobile signal. Now we are parked up in a really nice, paid for, aire on the coast close to Gandia about 20 miles north of Denia. Free wifi and loads of mobile signal. When I last blogged we had not

Oranges as far as the eye can see

We woke to a HUGE bang that rocked the van! It was 07:15 in the morning! That was followed by an extended barrage of gunfire that lasted for several minutes before it slowed to a steady trickle of trickle of shots. It turns out that the lagoon might be within a natural park but it is also a National Hunting Reserve. I was aware of a number of vehicles arriving in the aire late last night. This morning the car

Ebro Surprises

Ebro Surprises

It was a good night and not as cold as it has been. The forecast suggests that we are in for a warm spell after rain later today. We serviced Bertie and said our goodbyes to our new friends Alice and Joe (http://www.artandfreedom.co.uk/) who were in the only other van in the aire last night. This must be a record – 100% British occupancy! We had a good chat to them and we very much hope to see them again

Another cold night. 2c this morning but bright and clear again with no breeze. We set off before 10am having dropped the grey water and filled up with fresh water. I do love free services! Our route today takes us further up into the hills in the north of Penedes. The road started out quite wide but was really twisty once we started climbing. Very little traffic which was a relief and when we did meet something it was usually

Sant Marti Sarroca

Sant Marti Sarroca

We have had a lovely day doing not a lot! It was quite cold last night and our thermometer said 1C at 8am and there was a touch of frost on the picnic tables outside! This seems quite strange given the very exotic plants around us – lots of yukka, lots of prickly pears, palm trees etc. Definitely a porridge morning! It was still only 3.5C when we set off to walk up to the castle and church so we
